Get the Paperwork Finished

Building something of this size will require permission from the local government or state. The actual requirements will vary. Most likely they’ll include environmental clearances, meeting safety standards etc. Before starting the project you must have all the paperwork done. This will save you a lot of potential trouble later on.

Work out the Logistics

The next step to building a castle is knowing the figures involved. Hire an engineer or other specialists to work out the figures. When you know how much brick, stones etc you need, you’ll have an idea of the costs. Now you can hire the men and equipment needed for the task. This aspect is very important; do not overlook it.

Choosing a Good Site

A castle should be in the countryside. Look for places with lots of trees, lakes, mountains etc. A lot of what makes the castle attractive is the environment, so pick the site carefully. At the same time, you should select one that isn’t too far from necessary amenities.

Create the Moat

Start by excavating an area to be used as the moat. When digging is finished, apply some concrete on the edges. Let it dry. You can put fish and stones around the moat.

Set the Groundwork

Start building a castle by putting in the foundation. Use the heavy machinery to lay down concrete. Put some dirt in the middle section if you’re going to build a courtyard.
Put the Stones in Place

Use your sketch design to assemble the stones. When one row is finished, put some mortar or cement between the spaces. Note: the stones need to be large and staggered. Add the doors, windows, guard towers etc.

Tips and Warnings

There are lots of castles you can use as a guide. You can mix and match styles if you want. Some older castles simply used holes for doors and windows. If you are building a castle with real doors and windows, set it down in your plans.

Water supplies and electricity have to be planned for prior to building. The electrical outlets and wiring should be installed after the castle is built. Check all the wirings before using them.

Hire a professional electrician to avoid problems. You need to be patient too. The measurements have to be precise. A single mistake will cause the castle to collapse.

At no point should you scrimp on the building material. Settling for second hand materials or equipment is a recipe for failure. The same goes for the personnel; you’ll need to hire professionals for the building process.

Sure you can make a house, but why bother when building a castle is more fun? Once your castle is finished, you can relax and start to live like a king.
